Sustainability at VAG

Strategic aims

VAG is going green. Why? The answer is simple. We believe that only those companies acting in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner have a bright future. Therefore we have to change how we think – strategically – and what we do – operationally.

Key features

A process and customer-oriented environmental management system based on DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 and DIN EN ISO 14001:2004 has been developed and is being implemented at all of our production sites. The system is applicable to sales and marketing, development, manufacturing and customer service. The selection of suppliers is also subject to the strictest environmental considerations. A few examples taken from our headquarters in Mannheim are shown in this booklet.

Energy

We heat our warehouse and offices using a district heating system. Most of the electricity produced is used for machinery and lighting. Low energy light bulbs, recently fitted, help to reduce our energy consumption.

Water

By drawing industrial water from its own ground wells, VAG is able to reduce the use of drinking water in its manufacturing process. The acquisition of wash plants with their own circulation system, also helps to reduce water consumption in our state of the art paint plant.

Waste and recycling

The recycling of waste is very important to VAG and we comply with all legislative requirements. In addition we work very hard to minimize the amount of waste we produce. Even the transport of waste causes environmental pollution, which we can now reduce by using a paper press.

Think and act global

VAG is a company operating globally and environmental protection is a global issue. All VAG’s production sites – in Germany, the Czech Republic, China and India – will be required to implement or have already realised the standards and criteria of DIN EN ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management. Our foundry in the Czech Republic, for example, was the first to receive certification.
